Review by Jabberwock
The Eyeballs is a straightforward platforming game that is just, well, a little too straightforward. It's obviously the product of a fair bit of work, but parts of it seem half-hearted, and this ends up being the general impression that the game gives, unfortunately.

One example of this half-heartedness is the story. There are two kinds of eyeballs, blue ones and green ones, and they live in a forest for some reason. And for some more different reason, the blue eyeballs have decided to be evil, and capture all of the green eyeballs. BUT... they missed one. And guess who you get to play as. Nope, it's not one of the blue eyeballs.

The gameplay is bug free, but it is just too slow. The platforming is simple and the speed of everything is pretty low. This can be okay in some games, but in this one it just feels like an impediment, perhaps a way to make the game seem longer than it is. On top of this, there is not very much variety in terms of what you have to do and how you have to do it - you collect gold (why gold?) and you rescue other eyeballs (why eyeballs?) and you avoid other other eyeballs. About half-way through the game, I sort of stopped caring. This was not helped at all by the fact that the third "world" (of three) was almost an exact repeat of the first, with minor aesthetic changes. This felt lazy to me. The game is not very challenging, either.

The graphics are one of the game's stronger points. Even here, though, there are a couple of weak spots - I'm pretty sure I saw a resource pack background in the underground level, for example. The music, I did not really care for either. The tracks are high quality, but I found the repetition to be, eventually, grating, and I didn't care for any of the melodies much.

While it's nothing to write home about, this game certainly had some work put into it. With more original story and gameplay, more polish, and more variety, it could have been a good game. As it is, I did not find it very entertaining, but I acknowledge that I don't speak for everyone.

A decent and simple puzzler. A little vanilla, but enjoyable nonetheless.

Brilliant game. I love the leaf juggling thing. Special level seems kinda pointless though.
