Review by Mocha Man
I first learned about NAL when YoYo Games announced they were hiring him. In general, though, I can hardly consider myself active enough to be "in the know" about that kind of thing, and it is my current understanding that I am the last person on the face of the earth to find out about his games.

FKR2 (Fantastic Kinetic Reflexes 2) falls into what is apparently NAL's typical style: come up with a simple addictive idea and wire up a proof-of-concept with some solid programming and dazzling utilitarian graphics. The game is dirt simple-- just swing your mouse around, avoid letting things hit the mouse and try to eliminate those things with a set of orbiting shields. The help menu provides some premise about being a virus trying to infiltrate a computer, but it doesn't matter at all. Just last as long as possible. The real appeal lies much more in the brilliant use of plain, minimal-palette neon graphics. Honestly, every moment of the game feels like you've been thrown into a German disco filled with Pikachus. The game is artistically extremely well unified, and NAL evidently has a design talent for this kind of detail. I recommend it solely for the immersive visual experience.

It's definitely one of those games where you won't know what's going on the first couple of times you're playing, but your score will improve with each try. You can pick one of three speeds depending on how overwhelmed you want to be. My only gripe is that there is no audio indication when your character gets hurt, so the GAME OVER tends to catch you off guard. In general, though, you won't care. Play it to dance to the music, be inspired by the artwork, and to wake yourself up in the morning. You probably won't spend more than a few minutes with it, but I don't think the creator intended you to.

Creator's Description

The sequel to FKR. It's now more psychedelic, more skilfully made and hopefully less boring than before. Use W, S and Enter to navigate menus, please see the help file for more information.
