Game OverviewIn Hard Hat 2 War Ensemble you play the role of the seemingly insignificant Hard Hat from Capcom's Mega Man Series. Hard Hat is the henchman of the evil genius Dr. Wiley, and he is tasked with saving the city from the evil clutches of the mysterious Mr. X.

It is classic 8 bit platform romp that will leave you in tears of frustration and joy at your many attempts to complete you assigned duties.

Game Mechanics
"How does our hero ever complete this daunting task?", you ask. The game play is near perfect clone of the NES platformer know in the USA as Mega Man.
You start off having to select one of the eight levels that you MUST complete in order to face off against Mr. X and save the city.

These levels are represented by the boss robot that runs the area. Each boss robot has it's own powers and weaknesses that define the area around them. If you select Acid man then you will be faced with a level full of acid. Baseball Man's level feels like one big baseball field.

Once you finally make it to a boss and defeat him then you are gifted with his power. Each boss has a power that they are vulnerable too, so the order of levels you choose can make the game a whole lot easier or harder.

Each weapon and item you collect (there is an air sled - YAY ) has energy that is drained and can only be refilled by collecting the proper items. You get these items by exploring the levels and by killing the main enemies that plague your fair city.

Not only do you face incredible boss characters and their countless minions, but you also have to navigate some of the best planned levels that I have seen in a freeware game in quite some time. You have to time your jumps so perfectly in certain areas that you will nearly smash your keyboard from the pressure of having the fate of a city depending on your carefully timed keystroke!

I know this sounds like a lot to do, but the help of handy save feature you will have Mr. X's butt in a sling in no time.

My Thoughts

I hate Damaged. He had me swearing at pixels. I haven't cursed at a game in a long time, and this one had me red in the face.

It is so challenging and rewarding at the same time. You actually get new abilities that you have never seen before if you can just make a it a little farther. Very cool feeling in this game. Very Mega Man. Even if you never heard of Mega Man you will know why it is a classic after giving this game some serious playing.

The presentation in this game was real good. I wasn't a big fan of the main screen, but it couldn't be perfect right?

The features in the game where great. You could even configure your game pad. How cool is that you ask? I don't know! I really don't! I don't have a game pad.

There was al lot of imagination put into this game. The cast of main enemies was great and all original. Their levels were well designed and very interesting.

Complaints? You betcha.

I didn't like some of the enemy weapons you received. Some seemed hurried, and others seemed too powerful.

There could of been more minions in the game. I noticed many of repeats. The same enemies where in virtually every level.

The final boss was a bit easy to take down. Mega Man final bosses have traditionally transformed several times, and they have taken allot more damage than this Mr. X did.

My complaints were small, and they were just matters of opinion. Zero bugs that I saw, and it kept me entertained for several hours.

This is truly one of the best GM games, and it is one of the best Mega Man clones out there. Period.

Play it or I will do something very nasty.

The only game better than this is hard hat 3. Are you going to make a mm7-style or mm8-style hard hat. You should also make hard hat x.

This game is waaay too good to be a freeware game! Even if you're not a fan of Platform Shooting or a fan of Mega Man, you will find this game very fun! This game also makes a fine addition in the Mega Man Collection!! Of course, some good elements like the charching and the wall jump aren't present, but that doesn't mean this isn't a good 'Mega Man' game!

If I were to describe the game in one word, it would be Awesome!

This is a great follow-up to the first Hard Hat game. The bugs I mentioned in my review of that game seem to be gone and there is a new feature. You can now duck and hide in your shell (or hat, whatever) and avoid damage from most attacks while doing so (maybe all, I haven't completed the game yet). The levels are challenging in the traditional Mega Man way and the bosses are original for the most part. One question, though. Why in Blaze Man's stage after beating the mini-boss can't you continue the level after dying at the point AFTER you beat it, not before it? It would make it a tad more doable.

I hated this game ssooooo much!!!!! But I loved it at the same time!!!! I had a hard time figuring out stuff at first and I still haven't beaten a single boss. It is extremely well done, by the way what is the save feature cuz I can't save my game (that's why I haven't beaten a boss)

This is HARD! Just like Megaman, but I love this game. I think he made all the bosses from scratch in the 8-bit style, which is pretty cool. I also know the name of an enemy from MM now. Ima make my own MM game now too, and it will be good, cuz Im a good coder so don' worry.

Sorry, but tags like that don't work here.
To the point, Hard Hat 2 is much better than the original. Why? I have 3 reasons. 1, the levels were beatable. 2, there were Robot Masters that Damaged made himself. (Or herself?) And 3, the Jet Sled was fun to ride on. There are others, but these are key to Hard Hat 3. Try not to redo the first one, OK?
...that's it. Really!
