Random Land is a highly unusual and quite aptly named adventure-platformer with a style that manages to be both unique and distinctive and quite attractive. It's a happy mixtute that everyone strives for, and not everyone can achieve. Plus, it comes with an editable, so no secrets here. How cool is that?

The gameplay is well-done and at least slightly addictive, though I found the use of spacebar for a jump button slightly jarring after playing so many games with the left-right-up control scheme. Other than jumping around, though, there isn't a whole lot to do besides swim and climb the occasional rope. The climbing engine seemed very awkward, which is my only real complaint in this area.

As you might expect with a game entitled Random Land, the story is fractured at best, though what's there gives you a reasonably good idea of your goal. Essentially, someone has taken your house keys, and you must sacrifice a cow to get them back. Weird, yes, but I didn't make this up. The game also claims to a sort of moral, but I won't spoil that for you.

The graphics are what really attracted me to this game. They are simple and geometrical, but very stylish and just plain cool-looking. There's not a lot to say about them, other than that they reminded me strikingly of old NES graphics, which is cool.

The sound consists of a few digital sound blips and an arrangement of "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy," and that's basically it. I suppose the music it's fitting enough, but an odd choice nonetheless.

My only big complaint about this game, other than the climbing, is its length. It is a very short game, as so many independent games tend to be. I believe my final time was something along the lines of six minutes. Still, I think it's worth a download; it's not very big, plus it has an editable you can learn from, if that's what floats your boat. Even if not, I'd suggest you give it a try; you might be surprised.

Author's Description:
Guide a little recoloring cube through his quest to locate the missing house keys. A short adventure taking place in the small world of Random Land.

This is quite short compared to my previous work, but alas, I felt like making something simple. Comes with he editable.

I'm kinda surprised at how well this game is succeeding. I mean, it only has 3x5 screen sized world and is hardly innovative. But nevertheless I'm glad you like it.

Just as a sidenote, I think I spent around 3 - 4 days making this. But then again, I also played it through in 2 mins so...

For a short platformer I like it. The small story captiavtes you enough to play the game through. The graphics are cool and have a charm. The gameplay is great. The whole game gives me the feeling when I play Super Mario Bros. Of adventure and mystery! Good job! This will be on my faves!

it's simple yet fun, and, although the music was annoying, it fit the universe well. the whole game feels like a Seiklus on an Atari system. Random Land defines nonlinear platforming.

I have no idea when there's bandwidth left and when not but I just tried to DL it and it seemed to work ok so I guess everything is fine now!

PS. I didn't spend too much time with the rope climbing, which you can clearly tell just by climbing them :-)
