The first time I tried Johnny 2, I saw the main character and thought, "What in the world?" Johnny has no animation whatsoever, and what looks like a beard is actually a deranged-looking mouth.

As I jumped around on what seemed to be randomly-placed platforms, the music started up. This was the second thing in the game that made me think, "What in the world?" Generally, I like things that evoke this kind of reaction, but I couldn't get past a jump at the end of the first room and I gave up.

But I couldn’t stay away. Any game that would have a protagonist like that and such odd background music was worth a second try. I might mention now that the reason I couldn’t pass that jump was the game’s programming. Johnny 2’s platform engine needs some serious work. In fact, many things about this game need some serious work. But at the same time, the farther I made it in the game, the more I became convinced that if it had more robust programming it would lose something. It just wouldn’t be the same if, when falling to his death, Johnny didn’t get caught on a ledge by his nose.

Johhny 2 includes a surprising variety of enemies, from grassy sheep that fire lasers to ninjas to large bosses, but most of the challenge comes from dealing with the basic mechanics of the game. I’ll tell you my jumping strategy, since this was one of the major obstacles for me: press and hold left or right before pressing up to jump.

If you’re looking for a surreal experience, try Johnny 2. Because of how carefully constructed yet chaotic things seem to be, I can’t help wondering whether some of the game’s “problems” might be intentional. If you like this game, you might like the original Johnny, but I consider the first game weaker.

This game is bad. I don't even know if there are any sfx. There is wierd music that made me want to stop playing. And i didn't even see any enemies because you get stuck at this one place.
